It was rumored that she had undergone as many as fifty plastic surgeries to alter her face. However, Sahar Tabar has since revealed that she never actually underwent any surgeries and achieved her appearance through makeup and digital editing. In October 2019, Sahar Tabar was arrested on charges including blasphemy and illegally obtaining money. She was sentenced to ten years imprisonment in December 2020. However, after serving 14 months, she was released from jail. Her arrest and imprisonment sparked international attention and calls for her release from human rights organizations and activists. Sahar Tabar’s case highlighted the complexities of freedom of expression and the use of social media in Iran.
